What is gel polish?

Gel polish is a hybrid polish that combines the best features of traditional and gel polishes. Gel polish refers to a thin combination of gel mass and nail polish cured with LED lights that lasts much better and longer than traditional nail polish; the permanent polish is smear-free immediately after application. Gel polish can be applied on fingers or toes. You should not confuse gel polish with gel nails, which are a type of artificial nail.

What are artificial nails?

Artificial nails are made out of an acrylic mass and built on natural nails; you can use them to extend the length, thickness, shape and form of nails.

What is the difference between gel polish and gel nails?

As its name indicates, gel polish is a polish that is applied to the nail with a brush from a bottle like traditional nail polish, and it cannot be used to build length, thickness or shape on the nail like with artificial nails. Unlike traditional nail polish, gel polish is hardened under a lamp like gel nails.

How does a gel polish differ from an ordinary nail polish?

Gel polish is applied on the nails like a traditional nail polish, but it is cured under a LED or UV curing lamp. Under a LED curing lamp, the curing time is just 30 seconds, while with a UV curing lamp it is 1–2 minutes. The polish gets a beautiful, glossy and above all durable surface.

How long does gel polish remain in good shape on your nails?

The polish can remain at its best for up to two or three weeks, and it will not chip or wear in normal use. Constantly washing your hands, working in the kitchen etc. may damage the polish faster.

How do you remove gel polish?

Gel polish is removed gently by soaking it in a fluid intended for the purpose or by filing it off with a manual or electric file. Gel polish is not designed to be removed at home, and it cannot be removed with nail polish remover.
