The Finnish Act on Equality between Women and Men that entered into force in 2009 removed gender as a basis for the pricing of products and services; after this, men’s and women’s haircuts disappeared from price lists. However, men’s hair is usually cut by a barber, who does not use the same techniques as a hairstylist. For this reason, the distinction between haircuts by a hairstylist and barber is still necessary.
What is a haircut by a barber?

Can a short-haired woman get her hair cut by a barber?
In principle, yes, but you should keep in mind that a haircut by a barber is clearly more angular and masculine than a haircut done using the techniques of a hairstylist.
What does changing the cut mean?
Changing the cut means choosing a haircut that is completely different from the previous one, or that so much time has passed since the previous haircut that the hairstylist has to start again from scratch.
Why does cutting long hair cost more than cutting short hair?
Handling long hair takes more time than short or medium-length hair. A longer appointment has to be reserved for the cut, and the longer time naturally costs more.
Why is washing the hair included in the haircut?
Clean hair makes for a better cut. Sleeping, wearing a beanie, sweating, putting the hair into a ponytail etc. may also create a kink in the hair, meaning that the cut will not be even unless the hair is restored to its natural shape by washing.
Is washing necessary?
Washing is not absolutely necessary, but if the hair is dirty, it is washed simply to protect the scissors, the hairstylist’s most important and personal tool, from damage.
If I leave the wash out, can I get a discount?
Leaving out the wash does not mean that you get a discount; the wash is included in the cut without a separate price.
